The latest news for immigration and education in Canada

Canada has been an ideal place for Hong Kong migrants with its cities including Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary being ranked from the 3rd to 5th position among ''the most ideal living cities in the world'' held by The Economist in 2013.  Among these cities, Vancouver is also a place that is suitable for further education and retirement.  In the 16th Hong Kong International Education Expo held this May, Joe Lee, Consultant for further education and immigration, Shin Tak, shared with participants the latest information about further education and immigration in Canada.

Joe points out that the immigration policies of Canada changed this year, with the country's federal immigration through investment scheme being cancelled.  Despite the change, there are still other feasible plannings   available such as immigration through technology, experience and so on.  In addition, a new scheme called ''an immigration highway'' which is to be launched in 2015 will focus on immigration applicants' working experiences, academic background and their abilities of using English.  Since 95% of Canadan families come from the middle-income class, they have greater demand for expertises in the education, medical and healthcare sectors.  As such, registered teachers for child education as well as school headmasters will find it very easy to apply for successful immigration which is coming with higher salary and better development.  Joe also makes his suggestion for parents that they should make their plannings as much early as possible using the ''immigration through technology scheme'', if they wish to migrant to Canada and aim to send their children to study in this country.  Because family members can enjoy benefits from government's preferential policies including school fees for children, once their parents use working visas to apply immigration.  The benefits also include opportunities for free education if thier children have their study in Canada, thus saving a huge amount of money.

The higher education in Canada has been developed quite successfully, Joe pointed out that compared to United States and United Kingdom, Canada also encourage overseas students to study overseas.  After student studied in Canada,  and enrolled in any certificate course, he/she can apply for 2 to 3 years working visa.  In addition, there are also many renowned universities in Canada, including University of Toronto, University of McGill, University of B.C. Western University, etc,Joe reminded that some students who have intention to study Canada, in generally they need to appy for 1 year earlier in advance, otherwise, they will miss the university admissions deadline and miss the valuable opportunity.  In addition,  academic results alone do not represen the whole decisive factor, despite the ENglish language ability,  the individual's leadership, expression, indepndence, passion are also very relatively important, therefore, a good applying application is required.  Joe emphasized, the most popular course is medical care, child education, tourism, etc, as Canada has its own natural resources, good building foundation,  so environemental engineering, engineering management, construction courses also have the good prospect.  There are many people who are already in accounting, law sector industry, the competition is fierece, and the opportuntiy for further development is not huge, so for those with intention to study in Canada, they need to choose the subject carefully.

In addition, Joe suggests for those students that might not be able to get admitted to renowned university, they can take 2 years college first, when they get the satisfactory GPA, they can transfer direct to Year 3.  Therefore, student need to apply public college as early as possible, such as renowed, quality Seneca College, Langara College,Ontario College, choosing certificate, dipoloma, degree and integrate jointly practise opportunity course, as most of the courses are widely recognised by the government and public organisations, part of the courses with employment rate reaches 99%, also due to the tuition fee is lower than that of university, so it is even better to get admitted to second or third tier university.
